Community Leaders Hosting ‘Madrigal Dinner’

Charlotte Players is presenting its third annual Madrigal Dinner on Nov. 30, Dec. 1, and Dec. 2 in the new multi-purpose facility at First Alliance Church on Port Charlotte. The medieval celebration of Christmas (an English boar’s head feast) features entertainers performing in Renaissance dress along with a medieval-style reception and dinner. Different community leaders will serve as the Lord and Lady of the Manor and will be featured at the head table each night along with an invited pastor/minister.

On Thursday night, Nov. 30, Dennis and Melissa Valentino will portray the Lord and Lady of the grand manor. The Valentinos own Donato’s Italian Restaurant, Bocca Lupo Coal Fired Pizza and Prime Steak House. Serving as Lord Chaplin for the first evening is Murdock Baptist Church Senior High Pastor Kevin McCloud, accompanied by his wife, Jennifer.

Bob Miller, co-owner of Boyette-Miller Construction, and his fiancé, June Hutton, will greet guests as Lord and Lady on Friday evening, Dec. 1. Miller recently was honored with the Paul Joyal Pinnacle Builder Award by the Florida Home Builders Association. Tony Huffer, First Alliance Church Executive Pastor, will serve as Lord Chaplain that evening and will be joined at the head table by his wife, Cheri.

On the final night, Saturday evening, Dec. 2, Glen Nickerson, publisher of the Sun Newspapers, and his wife, Tracey Weikel, will host the dinner as Lord and Lady of the Manor. The Lord Chaplain will be retired minister Brent Sedgewick, accompanied by his wife, Diane.

The evening’s entertainment is being directed for the first time by Bill Olson, a Charlotte Players board member and the drama teacher at Charlotte High School. He plans to present a humorous play, “Sleepless in the Castle,” in short acts divided by other festivities.

Charlotte Players Vice President and Charlotte Harbor Film Commissioner Jerry Jones will act as Master of Ceremonies each evening. Music for the dinner is under the direction of Angela Navarro, music teacher at Peace River Elementary School

The event begins with a 5:30 p.m. Wassail Reception, followed by the call to dinner at 6:00 pm. First Alliance Church is located at 20444 Midway Blvd. in Port Charlotte.
Tickets are $40 for adults and $20 for students and may be ordered at the Charlotte Players website (www.charlotteplayers.org) or by calling the box office at (941) 625-4175, ext. 220. Proceeds from the dinner will benefit the nonprofit Charlotte Players.
